| Wedding Date Approaching Fast |
[Sep. 28th, 2005|09:04 pm] |
Ten days left! I'm not fussing much with the wedding details... I am however quite excited about the honeymoon planning!
I'm really looking forward to being wed. |

| Date won on a bet |
[Aug. 21st, 2005|08:25 pm] |
In South Africa we have a local soap: Isidingo. In a recent plot Tanya and Doep were about to get married. Me and Melodi had a bet on: I said they would get married - Melodi disagreed. We bet a romantic dinner on it.
I won!
So last night she took me out to Manhattan's grill in Cresta.
I had a lovely meal and great company! |

| Wedding Rings |
[Aug. 20th, 2005|11:45 am] |
We went to pick up our wedding rings today.
Melodi is going to get two wedding bands, made to fit her ring and I'm going to get a two-band titanium/gold ring.

| I find it so ironic. |
[Aug. 17th, 2005|04:30 pm] |

Many non-South Africans seem to think that, over here, wild game roams the streets. Not true :)
Now at the convention centre where I work they do have some game (notably the zebras shown above).
So some overseas contractors who come to work here - Arrive in SA and come work where wild game roams the premise.

| del.icio.us |
[Jul. 23rd, 2005|09:57 pm] |
I've just discovered del.icio.us. A social bookmarking site. You can store your bookmarks online - tag them - but most importantly share them and get the information regarding other user's tags and bookmarks as well.
It has lots of interesting possibilities.
As an aside - many of my favourite sites (e.g. slashdot and osnews are basically just link presentation forums. |

| Sick at home today |
[Jul. 19th, 2005|09:27 am] |
Two days ago i started getting a head cold. My drugs make me a bit woozy. This morning I've started coughing as well. I'm not planning to infect anyone at work so for today I'm staying at home. Doctor to be seen a bit later. |

| Suits |
[Jun. 26th, 2005|06:10 pm] |
I went to book the suits Michael and I have to wear on the wedding. I went taking myself instead of measurements and was also armed with a detailed list of Michael's measurements (including "wotsit to ankle" - I kid you not!).
We drove all the way out to Sandon to a place called Eurosuit.
A guy there served as fasion consultant - If he is not gay then I will eat my hat, i.e. I will GET A HAT and then eat it - It was like a "queer eye for the straight guy" experience - between Mel and him my fasion fate was sealed. As I told him my fasion-sense has been stunded from birth and the two of them proceeded to try to work around that.
Charcoal grey with cream was out - It looked like I had "jaundice".
We finally settled on a nice classic black suit - everyone agreed that I looked very handsome - I was just satisfied that It was quite comfortable.
I then managed to be talked into getting shoes - I almost left with R1000 italian shoes (with a square profile in the front) and a promise from the shoe guy that he would "take care of me" - but common financial sense kicked in in time and I settled for something much more reasonably priced and practical for work use.
All in all they made spending money a pleasurable experience.

| My Weekend |

| | cheerful | ] | I had a nice weekend. Me and Melodi went to see the Interpreter (preview). I really enjoyed it and thought it was excellent. Best portrayal of Africa and especially white africans I've seen on the silver screen. We also went to a nice coffee shop called the second cup.
This friday we had a company function: paintball. It was so much fun to run around the bushes and shoot colleague's. |

| | hopeful | ] | I finally took the plunge and bought myself a little usb tv-tuner.
 http://www.gainward.com/html/product/multimedia/tv2go/tv2go.htm
I'm telling myself that it will help me with some of the work I'm doing involving digital video. That is my story and I'm sticking to it!
I'm also planning to take some of the 8mm home movies my dad converted to VHS video tape and to convert it to VCD/SVCD/DVD (whatever I can manage with quality that is acceptable).
Of course now is my chance to borrow a video camera and try to make some kind of movie or something.
Anyway....
I'm enjoying it. |

I've just had a virtual camp. Melodi and I pitched out tent in her garden (pretended the house was nothing more than an ablution block at a campsite) and camped. We now know that the tent is ok in rainy weather. We also realize that we NEED an inflatable mattress and some light-source.
I really enjoyed it: forgot about work. I also had no laptop or internet contact.
Later we went to see the movie Hitch. It was nice, not great, but very entertaining.

| | happy but slightly tired | ] | I recently got a Sony Ericsson cell on contract. It being BlueTooth enabled I had to get a USB BlueTooth dongle. And then I had to get an GPRS account...
<snip>other adventures</snip>
After seeing a program called "floAt's Mobile Agent" (http://fma.sourceforge.net/) that has really slick features - popups on pc when SMS is received. Ability to send SMS from PC. Address book editing. etc. I looked at the code (Delphi unfortunately for me) I realise that basically most functionality is implemented by talking to the phone over a virtual com port (this is on Win XP) that is either the ir or bluetooth connection.
Looking at the sony ericsson site and a bunch of forums I finally hit payload.
Long story short the mobile phone acts like a standard modem using AT Commands. A reference manual from SE and terminal emulator later i can see how to implement most of the functionality.
to sleep... |

| | cheerful | ] | Hmm....
I'm online to try to sharpen-up my ICAN skills. Distractions abound though.
I really want to get some kind of communication plan going. Something like a list of people to email regularly and keep track of my contacts. Maybe something that notes the number of IM chats, emails, et. and helps me to keep touch with everyone. |
